Xmas! The Beatmas

[ Xmas! The Beatmas ]

Christmas time is here again! Christmas time is here again!

From time to time, I have received many inquiries from the Beatles fans about the song "Last Christmas", they asked about whether the Beatles REALLY sang the cover version of this song.

The Beatles NEVER, EVER performed a cover version of "Last Christmas". Surely they could not do so because the song was made in 1984... a long and winding road after the broke-up of the Beatles... and also the death of John Lennon...

Actually THAT "Last Christmas" which confused you and believed in it as the Beatles' masterpiece was performed by a Danish Beatles cover band - "Rubber Band". They had released an album containing a collection of twelve Xmas songs with strong Beatles influences in 1996 entitled "Xmas! The Beatmas".

This album is refreshing even for the die hard Beatlemania, at least I have such feeling. If you were sick and tired of hearing the old Christmas tunes the same way every year, perhaps it is worthwhile getting this album. The "Rubber Band" managed to arrange and play the Christmas songs using the real "Beatles sound" and instrumentation. The casual listener will immediately think that is the real Beatles, that was why so many people were getting confused.

So much fun that we can listen to Beatles music over Christmas, though they are not performed by the real Beatles, only a Beatles cover band.

The tracklisting for "Xmas! The Beatmas" is as follows:

Who are Rubber Band?

Rubber Band are without doubt Scandinavia's No1 Beatles Tribute Band.

They started in 1979, when it was still considered blasphemous to copy The Beatles, and their music. Despite this opinion, that was held by most of the general public, Rubber Band continued to rehearse with dedication, until their first public performance as “Billerne”. (They later changed their name to Rubber Band, inspired by The Beatles LP “Rubber Soul”).

The reception was amazing - the so called critics suddenly became enthusiastic Rubber Band fans!

This was this first step of their career as a professional band. It wasn’t long before they were working solidly throughout Denmark, steadily building their reputation as THE Band to have, no matter what kind of event was being held, - T.V. shows, Festivals, (with over 30,000 people) private birthday parties, (with as few as 10 people), company parties etc....In fact celebrations in all imaginable shapes and forms, no matter what, - Rubber Band were there!
